It is hard to put into words what I felt last night as we watched people after people walk in and join together to watch more than just a movie. The 1st ever “together event” for the Church of West Orange happened last night on the campus of St. Pauls Presbyterian in Ocoee, FL.
We bought the license to show “Fireproof” – a recent movie from the same group that released “Facing the Giants.” The many local expressions of the church that make up the Church of West Orange invited the people of our respective church families to come together and invite friends and family that they are on journey with for a movie event that challenges every person to live beyond self in every relationship (specifically focused on marriage, but even more than that). Well, people were invited to come together and people came. It was more than a full auditorium with folks even standing around and some sitting on the floor.
More than just the numbers, the participation and environment were electric, anointed even. Thanks to all the awesome volunteers who made it happen. Thanks to Family Christian Store and Scott Christopher for helping supply the Love Dare book, as well as being there to provide other resources for those who might want them. Thanks to Jim West and the Total Life Counseling team who were present to talk with anyone who came that just wanted someone to talk with then and there. Thanks to St. Pauls for being such an amazing host. Thanks to Erin Bethea, the co-star and female lead in the film, for coming and hanging with us and being interviewed afterward. It was a special time. Most of all, THANK YOU LORD for inviting us to join You in what You are doing with your church. May we continue to be about loving and growing people and watch you blossom Your church, and not just be about growing “my church.”
The conversations afterward included comments like:
This was an answer to prayer. Not just to see something that promotes healthy marriages and families, but to see the church quit being so religiously divided and be spiritually unified.
What a challenging message for the newest wed and the oldest wed.
It’s amazing to see what God will do when His church comes together as one.
This was special. Can’t wait to see what God does next.
And it was special. We pray that the effect of last night’s gathering will go far beyond anything we could ask or imagine. We pray that everyone there will take “the Love Dare” and give love not only in their marriages and families, but in every relationship.
Can’t wait to see how Thursday night goes. 7:30pm @ Windermere Community Church’s auditorium on CR 535 just north of Disney. Hope to see you there.
And, hope you will serve together with us April 18th. Click here for more details on that.
Let’s keep being the church together…
